I'm sorry I lied. Didn't mean to hurt any of you, especially her. I've ruined what could have been a good friendship for all of you and I've left her to clean up my mess. That's the last thing she deserved. I doubt any of you will see this. And it's fucked up that I'm posting this here, knowing you won't, because I'm not doing anything to help. I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot of photos in the next couple weeks.

I'm shooting in raw now because the school has Lightroom, and it reads NEF files way easier than my computer does [which is why I never shot in raw before. Mr. Costello said that the CD I got with my camera has a program to read them though. woops.]

so that's lightroom. I'm partial to photoshop because that's my history, but I won't lie- Lightroom is 10x easier to process photos in. It only has the things you need for editing the light and cropping, things like that. No fancy layers or cloning tools, which I don't need when I edit my pictures anyways.

Anyways, we had this project to take 100 pictures of the same thing. I chose this odd firehydrant.

god this is the ultimate. You just need a fan attatched to the ends so you can literally feel the wind rushing through your hair as you race.

EDIT: Watching the sony conference right now. Not to be out done by the Natal, they brought out this wand-like protype that I liked. Seemed sort of like the a wii remote, but way more control. It was very much just a prototype, and the guy who was talking about it clearly wasn't comfortable on stage. I enjoyed the demo but it kind of failed in comparison to natal, which was very much fully functional and all pretty like.

also, final fantasy 14 announced to come out in 2010, just like final fantasy 13. Wait.... wut?

im going to let ana do the majority of blogging about this because I'm sure she's probably the most excited for it out of any of my friends.

She's still on the bus and missed pretty much all of the microsoft conference though, so I'm just going to hit you with what I'm excited for so far.

oh and if you didn't already know, E3 stands for Entertainment Electronics Expo, or something like that. It's basically a big video game conference.

I love L4D so I'm sure I'll probably love the sequel. I really didn't expect it this soon though. I expected some new campaigns to be revealed at e3, but heres a whole new one! Can't wait.

microsoft also just blew me away with their new xbox: natal controller. (pronounced nuh-tall, not nay-tle like i thought) You play with your whole body. Your body is literally the controller. I just watched a guy paint a mural by swinging his arms like he was throwing paint. And all he had to do to change the color was say "White" or "Dark Brown".

and then there was milo(mylo?).

Thats all part of the magic of Milo and the natal. Milo is this little boy they created, and you can talk to him and he'll recognize you and remember who you are. He can even recognize what emotions you're portraying through your voice and body language.

Yeah it was crazy. I watched this girl in the red walk up to the tv and say "hi milo" and he said "oh hi claire, are you alright?" "yes, I'm just a bit nervous" "you? nervous? i doubt that."

and then they talked a little more and she said something like "we can play for a bit if you'd like, as long as you've finished your homework" and she could tell just by looking at him that he hadn't because he was looking at his feet. So she offer to help him with his journal entry on fish, and this involved what you see in the screen shot. checking out the fish in the water.

then she drew a fish on a piece of paper and handed it up to the tv and he then grabbed the paper, like it actually went through the tv.

man... it was crazy. microsoft is doing some cool things. A lot of serious gamers probably won't care because it's like the wii, not for serious gaming yet, but from a technological stand point, it's just beautiful. I know how hard it was in just AP CS to make a program read input that the user types in. Imagining doing that with body language and voice intonation... my god.

I've been blogging about it literally as it happens, so I haven't been able to supllement my first impressions with anything else yet. Nerdology is onlne though, and he's the first one i've found who's blogged about natal.

A camera that can detect the motion in the room. Think Wii controls without the Wiiremote. If the tech demo is any indication it is going to be phenomenal technology. Full motion in 3D space, full body tracking, even voice recognition.

They showed 3D version of Brick Out and then some weird painting game. While both showed off how great the technology is (and it really is) the ‘games’ they showed are hardly worth mentioning. They need a killer app.

“This is a landmark in computer entertainment,” I have to agree with Peter Monoleux. Something big will come of this even if it’s not right away. I know I keep saying this but the technology behind the camera is unbelievable. It’s obvious that MS has been working on this for a while. I remember Bill Gates talking about this exact thing at All Things Digital in 2007

I've been reading a lot of comments about Natal and people seem pretty underwhelmed with it. I'm not really sure why. I guess they're all just gamers who don't see the point. Natal is definitely next gen sort of stuff. People also hate change, and love to post mean nasty things to gain distinction.

I mean come on guys, You can can walk up to the natal and it will pull up the right profile and avatar just based of facial recognition. Does the coolness of that not soften your bitterness at all?

I spent yesterday + today trying to debug my final project in AP Comp Sci. Mr. Clay didn't know what to do, I didn't know what to do. I just sat there for so long, not knowing what to do.

and then in the end it turned out I had made a call to a method using the wrong name ['listBooks()' instead of "printOutBooks()" or something]

The error message I got was stupid though. Symbol not found

I've made calls to methods with the wrong name before and that's not the message it gives you. its always like method listBooks(java.lang string) not found

Whyyy did it tell me I had a symbol wrong? I wasn't even using symbols.

god I wasted so much time on that stupid issue.

The whole project is sort of ridiculous. A final project should encompass all the skills you've learned in the class, but this one is basically all new material he's thrown at us in the last week. And he basically gave us all the parts of it ahead of time. Like all the methods we need to make it work... we just have to fill out the method bodies to make them do what we want. But we sort of have to teach ourselves how to do that.

Then connect it to a GUI [Graphical user interface] so you can actually see it. with buttons and menubars and shit.

I'll make sure to take a screenshot when I'm finished so you can see how simple it looks (and maybe a sample of all the code that goes into making something even that simple)

tomorrow we're going to IBM to watch them make microchips (LIKE A BAWHS.)

Sometimes I like to imagine what it's like for other people. People who live in tropical places, or at least places that aren't covered in snow for 3/4 of the year.

This city dies in the winter. It's wonderous, don't get me wrong, but the cold just kills everything. As if there wasn't already a lack of things to do- That snow, man. I still don't know how I last until spring every year.

All we do on weekends is go to movies, and go to shows, and hang out in basements in small groups, trying to stay occupied. Some kids just go out and get blazed every weekend, but even that gets old.

We drive around the town for hours just trying to create excuses not to go home yet, but there's nothing to do.
(there's only so many times you can go to taco bell, and then downtown to the parking deck, and then back to taco bell)

We just drive, and look at the lights. Drive and talk about boys and life, and drive- Because you can't stop and you can't get out of the car. It's too cold.
And we've driven past the same buildings 3 times already, just back and forth. Stopped in every parking lot from Walgreens to the hospital, and eventually you just have to go back home.

But when I look back on those winter months, I guess it just makes it all more special. The fact that I managed to enjoy myself despite all that makes it worth the frost bitten fingers and all the matches that wouldn't light.

I have a friend who lives in Bermuda who asked me what's winter like. I couldn't really explain it to her.

I've been meaning to blog a few things forever but I can't remember them all.

Well one of them was that this french political party used MGMT's Kids for commercials and rallies, without permission, and they're all for cracking down on internet piracy MEANWHILE MGMT is all for free filesharing, and they think these guys are douches so they sue them.

And give all the money to some foundation for musicians :]

I just enjoy that story a lot.

I haven't made any gifs in a long time, but Alex and the guys at my lunch keep making these stop motion videos at lunch, and I thought it would be nice to preserve that for them in a file (so they can show off to their friends how l33t their photography skillz are)

It's taken me until April, but it's finally here:

The first CD released this year that I want to buy.

This is an epic day for me. Other than Bon Iver's Blood Bank EP I haven't bought any other CD's released this year (oh and Morrissey's Years of Refusal. I forgot that was this year). Other than those everything I've bought has been released in years past. I'm probably one of the last alive who actually buys entire CDs released years ago that aren't Nirvana and The Beatles( though I have those too).

SO this first CD of the year? Yeah, I'm really excited for it. I've heard a lot of hype about it, and I myself have hyped the couple of songs I've heard. I've stayed away from leaks and myspace streams for this day. This is the only thing I've found that can really make a Tuesday amazing: A CD release.

my dad got a twitter account for the sole purpose of complaining about HR block.

We happened to be in the car yesterday and talking about some sort of technology, and twitter came up, so michael was like “What is twitter?” so I said it was basically this thing for old people to use to complain about things. “Like facebook, but with out the face or the book- really it's just the status updates.”

And my dad just started laughing hysterically, and admitted that he actually made a twitter account last week. I’m going to follow my dad one twitter. This is so weird.

saying goodbye to vacation

First vacation I spent at home in years, and I can't say that's a good thing.

nonetheless, there were some good times.
Starting from the most recent:

yesterday I took a little trip to New York. I made a day of it, and hung out with Keebs for the first time in a long time.

We played with the remote controlled blimps he made in his LITEC course. If electrical egineering was purely messing with Blimps and embedded microcontrollers, I could see myself doing it.

Then we followed the trail of rich people [they had donald trump, obama, oprah, brit spears, ect plastered everywhere. Left over from the latest 'loose your shit' party.]
I think we followed them backwards, because we never found the place. Not that it would have been too exciting anyways. The party was long gone by then.

we got some guitar hero on too.

Friday I hung out with Hawna. We found this crazy hobo house down by the river/train tracks. It had a roof of old plywood, an old couch, even some chicken wire for added protection. It was actually really scary because it was clear someone lived there, probably not right then though. Luckily.

Then there was a not long enough week of too long nights, and empty days. There was some hot tubbing, some MAJOR pokemon: emerald, some I Love You Man [toats my goats], and a lot of driving around late at night.

Lets be honest. It was cold. There were some nice sunny days, but the nights were not so warm. Plus, it was windy nonstop. Nothing like the spring breaks that I'm used to, but enjoyable nonetheless.

so that's vacation, and tomorrow is school again. In 3 weeks I'll be taking the AP computer science exams, and then a few more weeks after that will be final exams for all my other class. Then Senior year is just Y.E.S. Plan and a summer away.

Internally this felt like going to bed at six and waking up at noon.

I am home from Paris now.

It was amazingfantastasticmagnificentastoundingfabulous and so much more, but now I am home and I have a double eye infection, and something that resembles strep throat but just couldn't quite hit that mark. My body couldn't really handle the travel.

On top of it all, my little brother has been in the hospital since thrusday and had to get surgery in both of his ears while I was away. I went to see him immediately after getting picked up last night, and it was one of the most heartbreaking things I've experienced. He was in his bed with an IV, his eyes with big dark bags under them. He told me about this color oriented pain chart for kids, on which he was "in the middle of the yellow and orange smiley", which I think translates to between 3-4 on a scale of 7 or 8. It made me think though, that pain is pain, and it doesn't really matter what label we put on it. When I looked I understood, but I feel that in telling I need to translate this pain into a numerical value, which is just ridiculous. There is no numerical scale for pain, and thinking of about it like that for too long will drive a girl crazy. He was so sweet, and he told me that he'd missed me while I was gone, then he proceeded to tell me about his various meals he'd eaten in the hospital and how he watched star wars on tv.

It made me think of when I was a kid and when I would be the one in the hospital getting the IV drips, and that depressed me way more than anything ever could, because I would never want my brother to go through what i did, but he is, and it is somewhat twofold.

On a lighter note, today is my own personal easter. In france my host mother (family of one) didn't really celebrate Easter, so Katie and I went to a market with her, then spent hours at a book and CD store. So when I returned I was greeted by my mother's eater bag for me. You know how when you're a kid and you got candy on Easter you always got to eat some before breakfast and thta was always a huge deal? Yeah, well this morning I did just that.

I"ll highlight the best parts of Paris ( or at least the most share-able ones) later.
